THE SMILE PROJECT

The project was aimed at putting a smile of the face of deprived school children in rural communities in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality. Nine (9) rural basic schools with 54 school children benefitted from the SMILE PROJECT. This project was implemented on the basis of a survey conducted by CIRCDev in March 2016 to identify the root causes of teenage pregnancy and school dropouts in the rural basic school as given by the Education Directorate of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality.

The team realized from the various 9 schools namely; Nkawie Islamic School, Kobeng Presby, Amanchia R/C Primary, Amanchia D/A JHS, Abira D/A Primary, Abira D/A JHS, Ataase D/A primary, Wurapong Basic School and Wurapong Islamic School that, some of the school children in the school were in bad condition with regards to their school uniform and even stationeries.

CIRCDev donated school uniform and exercise books to 54 school children with 21 being girls and 33 boys from these 9 school.

Outcome of SMILE Project

To sustain the impact of the donation, CIRCDev identified the parents of these school children and trained them in income generating activities in the areas of soap making and cassava processing to enable them adequately take care of their children.
